“Your hard work is working” – An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny

11th January 2016 - Daniel Rowan

An Taoiseach and Leader of Fine Gael, Enda Kenny TD, said today (Monday) that the hard work of the Irish people is working and the question now is who will keep the recovery going? Mr. Kenny was speaking at the launch of a Fine Gael digital advertising campaign called “Your hard work is working”.

“The hard work and resilience of the Irish people is bearing fruit and the economy is recovering. But the recovery remains fragile and cannot be taken for granted.

“Fine Gael has a long-term economic plan that offers people the stability and certainty needed to keep the recovery going.

“Our plan will deliver more and better jobs, with 200,000 new jobs and more people at work than ever before by 2020. Our plan will make work pay by phasing out the USC over the lifetime of the next Government, cutting the main 5.5% rate by another one percent next year, and ensuring that work always pays more than welfare. This month all taxpayers will benefit from the USC cuts in the last budget in their pay packets. Lowering the tax burden encourages job creation and the resources generated by keeping the recovery going will allow us to make sensible investments in frontline public services.

“The hard work is working. Over 135,000 jobs have been added to the economy since 2012 and 50,000 over the last year, that’s a rate of 1,000 per week. We are the fastest growing advanced economy and we will use the benefits of growth for sensible investment in our future.

“So today we are saying to people that Fine Gael has a clear plan to keep the recovery going.

“More people in work creates the resources to cut taxes for working people and invest in better services, improving living standards for all. This will ensure more people feel the benefits of a recovering economy in their own lives.

“The next election will be a choice between those with a plan to keep the recovery going, or those who will put it at risk through instability and chaos.

“We are determined not to let Ireland go back to those who wrecked our economy and our country or hand it to those who would kill jobs with new taxes on work and put at risk all we have achieved together.

“In an uncertain world, our long-term economic plan to keep the recovery going will reinforce Ireland’s position as a pro-jobs and pro-family country of stability, opportunity and growth.”
