What does Community mean to you?

Community can mean different things to different people, but it normally means a group of people who share common interests or goals. It can be based on your immediate area (i.e. your neighbourhood, parish, town), shared identities, interests, or values. Communities can be large or small, formal or informal, and can exist both online and offline.
A strong sense of community can enrich us all with a sense of belonging and support, purpose and connection. Across time, Ireland has prided itself on its strength of community, both rural and urban and indeed through adversity, those communities have provided resilience and collective strength to those within them.
Overall, while the benefits of community may be intangible, their impact on individual well-being, social cohesion, and collective resilience cannot be overstated.
We have come through a period of significant change in recent years and there will be likely much more in the years to come. We want to take the opportunity look out ahead towards 2050 to ensure that Ireland’s sense of community can grow and thrive. The planning for that begins now!
