Wicklow County Council Community Awards 2014 to benefit excellent Wicklow organisations – Doyle

29th April 2014 - Aoife Carragher

Fine Gael Wicklow TD, Andrew Doyle, today (Tuesday) endorsed the work of Wicklow County Council in recognising some outstanding community groups.

“The Community Awards are extremely important in recognising and rewarding the work of some excellent organisations across the county. Hundreds of people selflessly give their time to improve the quality of life in the region. It is fantastic to see some of these organisations receive much needed grants to assist in the work that they do.

“The range of organisations to benefit from the awards signifies the great variety of events and facilities available to people in the area. From Scouts to boxing clubs, Positive Ageing Groups, Womens, Groups, the Ashford Heritage Centre, Mountain Rescue, First Responders, Community Games, Drama societies, Tidy Towns Groups and Mental Health organisations; all of these are set to receive funding.

Wicklow County Council’s Community and Heritage Award Scheme is designed to assist local community groups and organisations from small scale or once off funding to support the groups’ activities or to develop a particular project. The funding is spread right through the county with large towns and small rural communities all in receipt of grants.

“The Community Awards are extremely important in providing a much needed financial boost to some very worthy organisations. County Wicklow has a lot to offer to young and old, to those interested in arts, heritage, sport or to those in need of support. It is vital that we continue to support these organisations and to assist them in the wonderful work they do.”
