Where is Sean Haughey, FF’s lead spokesperson on Brexit? – Richmond

21st January 2020 - Neale Richmond, TD

FF’s Haughey should be open to debate Simon Coveney on Brexit

With a little more than 10 days until the UK leave the EU, Fianna Fáil’s lead spokesperson on Brexit Sean Haughey has been nowhere to be seen, according to Fine Gael’s Senator Neale Richmond.

“We are less than three weeks from a general election and Fianna Fáil are asking the public to change Ireland’s Brexit Team, and yet we’ve to hear anything from Fianna Fáil’s lead spokesperson on Brexit. Ireland’s Brexit Team of the Taoiseach, Tanaiste and Minister McEntee have spearheaded Ireland’s outcome during the first phase of Brexit, achieving all of our stated objectives.

“Since Sean Haughey’s appointment as Fianna Fáil’s Foreign Affairs spokesperson; following that party’s Votegate Scandal; he has issued just one statement that mentioned Brexit, in the context of an increase in passport applications.  He has failed to tweet one single thought or insight on Brexit in his four months the portfolio.

“The Irish public have a right to know, what would Fianna Fáil do differently on Brexit?  I think that Sean Haughey should come out of hiding and debate the Tanaiste Simon Coveney on TV and Radio regarding Brexit and explain to the Irish public what he and Fianna Fail would do differently.”
