Volkswagen and Department of Transport need to explain possible effect of scandal on NCT – O’Donovan
25th September 2015 - Aoife Carragher
Fine Gael TD for Limerick and Member of the Oireachtas Transport Committee, Patrick O’Donovan, has called for Department of Transport officials and Volkswagen representatives to come before the committee to explain the effect that the Volkswagen scandal may have on the NCT.
“The recent scandal has raised many very serious questions about the real level of emissions from Volkswagen’s diesel cars all over the world, including here in Ireland.
“According to the latest CSO data, Volkswagen is the most popular car brand in Ireland with more than 17,500 new cars registered this year so far and this is not a new phenomenon as Volkswagen has been a hugely popular brand in Ireland for many years. This is therefore a very real issue for Irish motorists and in particular for drivers whose cars will be going through NCT.
“I believe it is essential that Volkswagen representatives, as well as Department of Transport officials, come before the Oireachtas Transport Committee to explain the implications for Irish drivers.”
