Vodafone here for the long-term

Fine Gael TD for Dublin South, Peter Mathews, has been assured that Vodafone is here for the ‘long-term’ and has no plans to outsource permanent Vodafone employees based in Leopardstown. The assurance was provided by Paul Ryan, Vodafone’s Director of External Affairs, at a meeting in Leinster House today.

“I requested the meeting to seek assurances that the jobs in Leopardstown are safe after a large number of my constituents contacted me regarding the company’s plans to outsource 130 jobs from its Drogheda operation to India and Egypt.

“I also wanted to hear the reasons why Vodafone deemed it necessary to outsource jobs from Ireland, to see what the Government could do to encourage them to retain current employees in Ireland and to persuade them to relocate jobs from its global operations its Irish head quarters in Leopardstown.

“It was a very productive meeting and Mr Ryan confirmed that Vodafone is ‘here for the long term’ and that they have ambitions to expand its operation in Leopardstown by moving departments located elsewhere in the world to its Irish head quarters.

“Politicians must have an open door approach to companies who have the ability to retain or create jobs in Ireland. Creating jobs is the Government’s number one priority. If there is something the Government can do to retain or create jobs in Ireland, these suggestions must be brought straight to the attention of Cabinet Ministers.”
