Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar TD has officially opened the R402 Enfield Edenderry Road Improvement Scheme, which includes 11km of single carriageway.
The €40 million project replaces a substandard section of regional road that previously had a poor safety record. The upgraded single carriageway road which links Edenderry to Enfield will also provide a good quality access corridor to the N6/M6.
This section of the R402 is Edenderry’s most important link to the national road network. It carries around 4,850 vehicles every day, including a number of HGVs.
“It’s a pleasure to officially open this road project this month which is an important link road for the region. The previous road was very narrow and had some severe bends, and couldn’t deal with large volumes of traffic,” Minister Varadkar said.
“This improved R402 increases the capacity on this route and also allows for future traffic levels. The high-quality single carriageway will improve journey times and road safety.”
