by Deputy Bernard J. Durkan
for WRITTEN ANSWER on 10/07/2014
* To ask the Minister for Health the extent to which the Health Information and Quality Authority has carried out inspections to hospitals or health installations in the public and private sector which have resulted in remedial works and/or upgrading of services or other improvements that have been undertaken at a specific cost; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Bernard J. Durkan T.D.
REPLY.
Since the Health Information and Quality Authority was established by the Health Act 2007, it has carried out a large number of inspections of designated centres for older people, children’s residential centres, special care units and foster care settings and hospitals. In November 2013 HIQA took on responsibility for the regulation of residential and residential respite services for children and adults with disabilities provided by the Health Service Executive (HSE), private organisations or voluntary bodies. HIQA publishes the results of all its inspections which includes recommendations on any improvements necessary to meet the requirements of the regulations and standards which are in place. The Department or HIQA does not keep a record of the cost of remedial works undertaken or service improvements introduced by public and private service providers in order to comply with these regulations and standards.
