Transformative funding boost for young family carers – Buttimer
19th September 2022 - Senator Jerry Buttimer
New funding announced today will prove transformative for family carers across Ireland by providing employment, education, and training opportunities, a Fine Gael Senator said.
Member and co-chair of the Oireachtas All-Party interest group on family carers, Senator Jerry Buttimer, noted the huge impact of the announcement made today by Fine Gael colleague and Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys TD.
Senator Buttimer said, “Family carers are at the heart of our society and caring for our loved ones. This massive boost recognises young carers and provides a pathway to education, training and career-enhancing opportunities.
“The two million euro fund is a pivotal step in rebuilding the confidence of our carers and showcases the power of flexible online training.
“One of the key issues for family carers is maintaining a work-life balance and finding time for themselves, it’s a juggling act for many. Digital resources will be rolled out as part of this initiative and will assist schools in catering for young family carers.
“Caring families are facing additional pressures with the cost of living and energy crises. There’s a lot at stake and this funding announcement comes at a crucial point. Fine Gael is standing up for working people and is committed to putting money back in people’s pockets.
“I wish to thank Minister Humphreys for her active engagement in not just listening but acting on the needs of carers, especially young carers”, Senator Buttimer concluded.
