Tipperary set to directly benefit in 2016 as economic recovery continues

27th November 2015 - Noel Coonan TD

Fine Gael has a plan to keep the recovery going in Tipperary according to Fine Gael TD for Tipperary, Noel Coonan.
“More people returning to work means the Government has more revenue to invest in better services here in Tipperary.  It also means lower taxes for working people. Our economic recovery is having a direct impact locally and Fine Gael has a plan for significant improvements in Tipperary in 2016.
“As part of an €80 million national programme to improve our schools and our children’s education, a new school will be built at Sacred Heart NS in Roscrea, and there will be new extensions for Killea NS and Clonmore NS, Scoil Náisúnta Mhuire na Trócaire in Cahir; Gaelscoil Chluain Meala Baile Gaelach; Gaelscoil Charraig na Suire; St Colmcille’s National School and St Joseph’s National School in Templemore and Coláiste Phobail Ros Crè have also been allocated funding for significant upgrades and refurbishments.

“Local roads in Tipperary will also be improved as a result of the economic recovery. Works are planned to remove the bottleneck at the Shannon Crossing Bridge at Killaloe.

“As a result of a €57 million investment by the Government, 832 new social housing units will be built in Tipperary before 2017. Significantly, the construction of these houses will help create approximately 457 jobs during the building phase. Planning permission has been granted to build 118 new private units in Tipperary.

“A new Garda station is planned for Clonmel and works will take place at the Garda College, Templemore. We have also re-opened Templemore and recruitment of 1,150 new Gardaí is underway. Capital funding of €875 million has been announced to invest in Garda stations, vehicles, IT and new burglary laws will also significantly benefit communities in Tipperary.
“2016 will see more vital payments being made to Tipperary farmers. Sports capital funding of €1,247,356 has been allocated to Tipperary clubs and societies for 2016.
“Tourism is supporting thousands of jobs in Tipperary and the Government has invested €330, 349 in tourism projects including Clare Glens, Nenagh signage and Tholsel Fethard. Over €8 million has also been invested in the Templemore Flood Relief Scheme, a project which is due to begin in 2016.
“Over €275 million has been allocated from the National Broadband Plan for the roll out of high speed broadband and SIRO are rolling out high speed broadband in Clonmel. This is a significant boost for residents and will help attract investment into the area.
“There are also many other amenities which add to quality of life in Tipperary and this Government has allocated Sports Capital funding of €1,247,356 to Tipperary clubs and societies for 2016.
“The money that is paying for these improvements to our county is a direct result of the 135,000 new jobs that have been created since the Government launched its Action Plan for Jobs in 2012. The Mid-West Action Plan for Jobs for Jobs sets out a specific path for creating 23,000 new jobs by 2020.
“We have a plan to create more jobs and keep the economic recovery going. As our economy continues to improve and more people return to work, the Government will have more money to invest in public services in Tipperary and reduce people’s taxes. This will ensure more people and families feel the benefits of the recovering economy in their own lives.”
