Three new classrooms, a state-of-the-art science lab and new art room for Skerries Community College – Reilly
21st November 2019 - Senator James Reilly
Fine Gael bye-election candidate, Senator James Reilly, has confirmed Skerries Community College has been approved for a state-of-the-art extension.
Senator Reilly, who was joined at the school today by Education Minister Joe McHugh, said the announcement is excellent news for local students and their families.
Senator Reilly said: “I am thrilled to confirm that Skerries Community College is set to get three brand new classrooms, a state-of-the-art science lab and prep area and a beautiful new art room.
“Three new offices and a number of blocks of toilets will also be provided.”
Senator Reilly continued: “This will make a big difference to the school and wider communities.
“I am acutely aware of the enrolment pressures facing schools, parents and students here and Minister McHugh has assured me that local principals are being contacted by officials in his Department to discuss these issues and agree a way forward.”
Education Minister Joe McHugh said: “I appreciate there is some anxiety among parents about a shortage of places in north Dublin but I am hopeful we can find solutions.
“Part of that is investing in extensions and providing bigger and better facilities like this in Skerries, but part of it is also sitting down with principals to assess exactly how many places they have and if some short term accommodation is needed.
“We have sorted issues like this before and we can do it again.”
