Taoiseach congratulates Irish boxers

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny T.D., today congratulated Irish boxers for their outstanding and historic achievements winning four medals at the European Boxing Championships in Belarus.

” I want to heartily congratulate John Joe Nevin and Jason Quigley on winning European Championships gold medals and Michael Conlon and Paddy Barnes on claiming silver at today’s finals in Belarus.

Irish boxers continue to deliver outstanding performances which are just rewards for all their efforts over many long months and years of training and preparation.

I also want to thank Coach Billy Walsh and the coaching staff for their commitment to the team and for their ongoing commitment and efforts with these great young boxers.

We are such a proud sporting nation and our boxers are amongst the best in the world.

Congratulations once again to all our great boxers, their families and all who supported them to deliver an historic medal haul.”
