Switch up your routine for a healthy 2019
11th January 2019 - Fine Gael Press Office
Two parliamentarians have highlighted the benefits of making small changes to your daily routine for a healthier New Year.
Minister of State for Sport, Brendan Griffin and Mayo Senator Michelle Mulherin said January is a great time to try a new sport or improve your diet to benefit your overall health.
Senator Mulherin said: “I really love running, but for years I didn’t know I could run.
“It all started when one evening after work here in Leinster House, a few people told me they were going for a walk and I decided to join them.
“It turned out they were actually going for a run and it was too late to back out so I went for it.
“Running alongside the others that night, I learned the importance of pacing myself in order to run a distance and I haven’t looked back since.
“There are so many benefits to getting out there and getting active. Not just for your physical health but also for your emotional and mental health which are so important.
“This January I would encourage everyone to get out there and get active. Try something new for a healthier start to 2019.”
Minister Griffin said: “I had a great 2018. This time last year I was five stone heavier.
“I really focused on switching up my diet, improving my fitness regime and getting active and healthy throughout the last 12 months.
“I would encourage everyone to invest time in health, fitness and wellbeing in 2019.
“It makes a huge difference and if I can do it, you can do it too.”
