Stunning beauty of Kerry showcased in last night’s Top Gear – Griffin

27th June 2016 - Brendan Griffin TD

Kerry Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, has said that the Irish episode of Top Gear showcased the stunning beauty of Kerry and was brilliant publicity for all that the county has to offer.

“I was delighted when I learned that Top Gear was coming to Kerry, having been in contact with the BBC since 2014, inviting Top Gear to the Wild Atlantic Way. I also raised the matter in the Dáil and with the tourism agencies.

“In the long-awaited Kerry special hosts Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc headed to Dingle to see whether the new Rolls-Royce Dawn could out-class its ancestor, a 1976 Corniche.

“The episode was fantastic for Kerry, it was beautifully shot and painted Killarney, Kenmare and Dingle in a magnificent light.

“Top Gear has huge viewership numbers in the UK and around the world and I have no doubt that the Irish episode will be very beneficial to Kerry and bring with it a great boost to the tourism sector in the county.

“The BBC has done Kerry a great service. The hugely positive exposure and marketing that the county received would have been very expensive to buy and will have a large impact. It’s my hope that this will lead to increased bookings from the UK and beyond, as people chose Kerry and Ireland for their holidays.”
