Statement by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD Leader of Fine Gael
28th February 2017 - Enda Kenny
“I was deeply saddened to hear of the untimely death of former Dáil Deputy, Peter Mathews.
“Both as a member of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party, and subsequently as an Independent Deputy, Peter served his constituents with commitment and energy.
“The economic crisis prompted him to get involved in politics and he had very strongly held views on how that crisis, particularly in the banking sector, should be addressed.
“Peter Mathews bore his illness with courage and resilience. He was devoted to his family and it is to his wife Susan and their children that I express my deep condolences, on my own behalf and on behalf of the Fine Gael Party.”
