Stanton Welcomes Local Irish Water Investment

9th May 2014 - David Stanton TD

Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton, has welcomed today’s announcement by Irish Water of its proposed Capital Investment Plan 2014-2016 which includes water supply and wastewater treatment projects.

“I am pleased that a number of local water projects are included in Irish Water’s plans over the next three years.  One of these is a major wastewater project, Cork Lower Harbour Main Drainage Scheme, which includes a new treatment plant at Shanbally to serve Cobh and other areas around the harbour.  Construction on this will begin next year and the estimated project cost is over €73 million.

“There are also a number of smaller scale wastewater treatment projects to be progressed in the East Cork area such as the upgrade of Carrigtwohillll Sewerage Scheme and Wastewater Treatment Plant and Youghal Sewerage Scheme Network and Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Construction will also commence on similar works in Whitegate/Aghada, Saleen and Shanagarry/Garryvoe/Ballycotton.

“I understand that water supply works will also continue in Conna with regard to the reservoir and regional supply scheme.

“In total some €1.7 billion is being invested by Irish Water in 380 projects nationally with investment to include a rollout of a conservation programme to deal with leaks, the provision of a secure supply of pristine drinking water for households and a reliable supply for business and industry.
