Sod-turning ceremony for new Ballinamore school a red letter day for the whole community – Feighan
24th January 2013 - Deborah Sweeney
Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/South Leitrim, Frank Feighan, has described this week’s sod-turning ceremony for the new Ballinamore school as a red letter day for the whole community.
“The sod-turning ceremony for the new comprehensive school marks the end of 40 long years of campaigning for a new school for Ballinamore.
“This certainly is a red letter day for the whole community as the construction commences on a state-of-the-art school which has been long anticipated by everybody.
“I want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the trustees, the board of management, the teachers, the parents and the whole community who have worked so hard to ensure that this project has come to fruition.
“Work on the new school will begin straight away and BAM Contractors are expected to complete the new school within an 18 month timeframe, after which it’s expected to accommodate 400 pupils in April 2014.
“I wish BAM well in their endeavours and their proven expertise and experience in Public Private Partnership will ensure that the project is in very good hands.
“BAM has worked on a range of major PPP building projects in Ireland, including the National Aquatic Centre and the terminal development at Cork Airport.
“So the long wait has finally come to an end with a new state-of-the-art-school set to serve the educational needs of local children for generations to come.”
