Sinn Féin alternative budget punishes Irish owned businesses – Ahearn
The Sinn Féin alternative budget is a throw-away budget which will harm small and medium Irish enterprises, said Fine Gael Senator Garret Ahearn.
“From an employment and enterprise point of view, Sinn Féin’s alternative budget is the biggest cash grab since the Northern Bank Robbery. It’s not a give-away budget, it’s a throw-away budget.
“This alternative budget confirms that Sinn Féin has no plan for business, but to punish those who create employment with stealth income taxes, stealth property taxes, and increased costs.
“When Fine Gael formed a government, unemployment was at 16%. This year we saw a 20 year low in unemployment, and today it stands at 4.1%, which is full employment.
“Sinn Féin takes our progress for granted. The party has consistently pushed a rhetoric of punishing multinationals that have set up in Ireland, but these proposals also show their total disregard for small indigenous Irish owned businesses.
“Sinn Féin is telling those who get up early in the morning to instead stay in bed, as they’re going to tax everything and have no plan to support Irish business on their costs.
“This contrasts strongly with the type of business supports Fine Gael has delivered during Covid, Brexit and the war in Ukraine.
“Fine Gael has consistently supported small Irish owned businesses, as can be seen with the Small Business and Enterprise Conference held just last weekend, where our representatives heard from business owners on their needs.
“Ministers Donohoe and Coveney will also deliver further supports for businesses next week that show just what nonsense this Sinn Féin budget is”, concluded Senator Ahearn.
