SF antics on first day of the Dáil confirm their determination to remain on the side-lines – Fitzpatrick
11th March 2016 - Aoife Carragher
Fine Gael TD for Louth, Peter Fitzpatrick, has said that Sinn Féin’s antics on the first day of the Dáil highlighted their determination to abdicate all responsibility and to remain on the side-lines.
“It is clearer than ever that while Sinn Féin is happy to produce a long shopping list of requests and to dream up madcap economic policies, they have no intention whatsoever of being in Government or taking on any responsibility.
“Sinn Féin’s antics on the first day of the Dáil indicate that they see the parliament as nothing more than a playground where they can hop, skip and jump away from responsibility, while pushing their own agenda.
“Sinn Féin used the first day of the Dáil, a day where work should begin to establish a stable Government, to push their own agenda making no attempt to progress the important work of the day.
“The General Election did not elect any clear Government. Fine Gael, as the largest party, has a responsibility to work to try to put together a stable Government but Sinn Féin, also has a responsibility one they are totally abdicating.
“It is disappointing, but not surprising, to see that Sinn Féin shows no intention whatsoever of contributing to the 32nd Dáil in a constructive way.”
