11th July 2020 - Senator Joe O'Reilly
Senator Joe O’Reilly has said he is honoured to have been appointed Seanad Spokesperson on Foreign & European Affairs, Defence & Brexit for the Fine Gael party.
Senator O’Reilly said, “I am committed to working hard and helping to implement the Programme for Government which aims to rebuild our economy and renew our society and communities during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I am particularly pleased to work on the crucial area of Brexit as I have a deep understanding of the challenges that Brexit presents and how we must work together to protect border communities and the island of Ireland in this crucial period.
“Ireland’s interests are best served by active and engaged membership of the EU and it is vital that we work together with member states to advance peace and prosperity across the Continent.
“I also look forward to act as a spokesperson on matters of Defence, and to recognise the hard work of our Defence Forces and the men and women who serve our country with great pride and distinction. The Government is committed to ensuring that the Defence Forces are suitably resourced to participate in their important work and the challenges facing the global community.”
