Sean Conlan TD Welcomes historic mandate to start EU-US trade talks and Potential for 400,000 new jobs and boost to EU GDP of 0.5%

Deputy Sean Conlan welcomes the agreement which was secured by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD among EU Trade Ministers which will enable the start of negotiations between the EU-US on a new trade deal.

Deputy Conlan stated that “It has been the top of this Governments list of priorities during our presidency of the EU which began in January that we would reach agreement among EU Trade Ministers on the terms of the EU’s negotiating mandate to start talks on an EU-US Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership”

This trade agreement will have massive potential in the areas of Stability, Growth and Job Creation. Sean continued by stating that “A comprehensive Trade and Investment Partnership could over time have the ability of creating around 4000 jobs across Ireland” He further stated that “This new deal will offer significant opportunities to indigenous firms in all sectors to export to the huge US market. It will also benefit US firms in Ireland who already employ over 115,000 people directly.”
