Have your say on Sunday library openings – Richmond
30th January 2017 - Neale Richmond, TD
Fine Gael Dublin Rathdown Senator, Neale Richmond, today (Monday) welcomed the opening of a public consultation into expanding the operating days of the Dún Laoghaire Lexicon library to include Sundays.
“Many library users have contacted me in recent months asking for the library in Dún Laoghaire and others across the county to open on Sundays. Following a trial run, the Council are running a public consultation to assess the potential demand for Sunday openings.
“The award winning library, owned and operated by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Council, was met with some opposition during its development but has now become ingratiated into the communities across South Dublin through its range of services but also high quality culture programme. The library holds over 80,000 items in its collection for lending and is an invaluable public resource.
“The Sunday opening would allow for increased usage and support employment within the locality through increased footfall. Many families have been left disappointed to find the library closed upon their arrival, assuming such a large and important facility would be open.
“I encourage anyone with a view on this to make a submission through the Council’s website by the closing date on the 10th February. I hope this would ensure the opinions of local community and the library’s users are represented.”
