2nd February 2014 - Daniel Rowan
Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/South Leitrim, Frank Feighan, has said that the 250 jobs announced for Roscommon in the last week by a number of global pharmaceutical companies are a massive vote of confidence in the county’s infrastructure and its people.
“South Roscommon, in particular Monksland, is gaining a significant reputation as a major cluster for global pharma companies, as indicated by three major investment and job announcements for the area in the last week.
“The respective investments by the Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Alexion and Alkermes amount to a total injection of almost €100m in the development or progression of state-of-the-art facilities in south Roscommon.
“Last week, Alexion announced plans to create 40 jobs with the planned opening of a new vialling facility and on the same day, Alkermes committed to investing €20 million in its Athlone site to enhance its R&D and manufacturing facility.
“Yesterday (Tuesday), biopharma company Jazz Pharmaceuticals announced that it will commence construction on a €50 million manufacturing facility which will create 160 construction jobs and fifty full time jobs. Marking the official ground breaking ceremony in Monksland, An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD, said the Jazz Pharma announcement was a great day for Roscommon and the midlands.
“Indeed, all three company announcements in the last week represent a clear vote of confidence in our economy. This good news sends out a clear message that County Roscommon is very much open for business.”
