Review of the National Development Plan is the opportunity to chart out transformative changes
8th February 2021 - Richard Bruton TD
The review of the National Development Plan provides an opportunity to chart out the transformative change we need, particularly after the dramatic impact Covid-19 has had on our society, a Fine Gael TD has said.
The deadline for submissions to the public consultation phase of the National Development Plan will run until the 19th of February, giving everyone an opportunity to inform and influence important policy which affects our daily lives.
Deputy Bruton, Chairperson of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party said, “The review of the National Development Plan is the opportunity to chart out the transformative change we now need.
“It will shape what sort of a country we want to be. It is a time to be ambitious and take bold steps to deliver better outcomes.
“It is a time to show that the centre ground in politics understands the nature of the challenges in people’s lives and has the strategies and policies to fix them.
“There are three core challenges which the Review must square off:
- Break new policy ground in how the state delivers Affordable Homes in Sustainable Communities across the country.
- End our dependence on Fossil Fuels and create a Zero Pollution country.
- Harness the Electronic Revolution to deliver better connected and more imaginative communities.
“Failure to take the lead in these areas would see our communities hollowed out by slow and painful adjustments.
“The National Development Plan represents an investment of €75,000 for every family in the country. We must make it count,” Deputy Bruton concluded.
