Q: How many jobs did FF destroy in one year? A: 70,000+

9th December 2015 - Regina Doherty

Five years ago today CSO stats show 70,900 jobs lost in 2010

Fine Gael TD for Meath East, Regina Doherty, said today (Wednesday) that Fianna Fáil has no jobs policy and wasted four and a half years in opposition taking populist and self-interested positions and failed to outline any alternative policies.

“Five years ago today the CSO revealed that over 70,000 jobs had been lost in the previous 12 months.

“Fianna Fáil’s legacy is the destruction of almost 6,000 jobs a month in their last year in office. Now, as the recovery is taking hold, they have no jobs policy and no plan to get people back to work.

“The party that led us into a bailout wasted their time in opposition, focusing on political posturing rather than policy formation.

“Worse still, they undermine the Irish businesses that are driving the recovery by refusing to acknowledge their contribution to the growing economy.

“Fine Gael has a long term plan to keep the recovery going. We are seeing economic progress, with over 135,000 more people at work, but we cannot take for granted that stability and recovery will continue. We cannot let the same old Fianna Fáil take us back.”
