Practical changes to your child’s lunchbox could have a life-long impact – Noone

7th September 2015 - Senator Catherine Noone

Dublin Senator Catherine Noone, has said today (Monday) that practical changes to what parents are putting in lunchboxes can have an impact on the children’s lives for many years to come. Senator Noone is also pointing out the positive change that improving fitness levels can make to the lives of young people.

“This week, as children return to school, I’m holding a public meeting on the health and well-being of our children in ‘The Halfway House’, Navan Road, Dublin 7 this Wednesday 9th September at 8pm.

“Here in Ireland one in four Irish children have been classified as overweight or obese, whilst the World Health Organisation recently predicted Ireland would be the fattest nation in Europe by 2030.

“We need to make real and practical changes in all of our lives if we are to combat this trend. This week’s public meeting will provide practical tips for fitness, meals and lunchbox ideas. One of the speakers on the night will be leading nutritionist Heather Leeson, who is co-founder and director of Positive Nutrition. She will be offering advice on how to provide your child with healthy, nutritious alternatives for their optimum well-being.

“Child fitness expert and occupational therapist Brenda Cassidy will also be a speaker on the night. She is currently the Director of ‘Zoom Boom Kids’ a physical skills and fitness building program for primary school aged children to boost their fitness and health.

“The best way to tackle this growing trend of childhood obesity is through practical measures, which will have life-long effects. I would encourage parents to come along on Wednesday night and get some valuable tips, which will help them improve the diet and fitness levels of their children.”
