Positive progress for CF patients in Beaumont – Noone

6th November 2018 - Senator Catherine Noone

Today marks great progress for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) patients attending Beaumont Hospital, a Fine Gael Senator has said.

Catherine Noone will welcome Cystic Fibrosis patients and families to a briefing in Leinster House today to inform them that the Beaumont Hospital CF Inpatient Unit will formally go through the planning process at the end of this month.

“It is fantastic news for Cystic Fibrosis patients and Beaumont Hospital that we are seeing progress on the long awaited Inpatient Unit. I raised this matter in the Seanad recently by tabling a Commencement Debate outlining the urgent need for progress on this project.

“Life expectancy for people with CF has increased progressively in recent years, which is really positive. This means it is incumbent on Government to respond to the increased numbers of adults with cystic fibrosis being treated in adult centres, and the increased complexity of cases.

“In that context the Beaumont Hospital Inpatient Unit was promised in the Programme for Government and it is great we are now we are seeing movement on it as it is about to enter the planning process.

“Of course with any planning application there are no guarantees so I commit to continue working on this matter to ensure that CF patients get the best possible service in Beaumont Hospital as soon as possible.

“I also welcome the development of plans for a new A&E department at Beaumont and look forward to the site selection report in the coming days”.
