Patronage of new schools in Naas and Maynooth granted to Kildare VEC
25th July 2012 - Senator Anthony Lawlor
Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, today (Wednesday) warmly welcomes the announcement by Minister for Education, Ruairi Quinn, that the proposed new schools for Naas and Maynooth will be under the patronage of Kildare VEC.
“In June 2011 the Minister announced that two new schools would be established in Kildare North during 2013 and 2014 but the decision to grant patronage to Kildare VEC was only made known today. An independent advisory group was established by the Minister to determine the patronage of the new schools. In making their decision, this group considered parental demand and assessed how the proposed schools under the respective patrons would provide for extending or strengthening diversity of provision in each area, having regard to the views of parents.
“I am delighted that Kildare VEC has been granted the patronage of these new schools, a decision which I believe will mean that parents and students have real choice when it comes to deciding which school most reflects their own ethos. Having taught in the VEC school in Maynooth myself many years ago, I have first hand experience of the wonderful work which the VEC undertakes and welcome the fact that this has also now been recognised by the Department”.
