This is déjà vu for some of us. We are reviewing an item we reviewed before, something that occurs with many pieces of legislation. A number of speakers have mentioned updating legislation. It is important that when we update legislation, it should remain updated. That should be the purpose of the exercise and we should not have to revisit it after a couple of years..

I am pleased to have an opportunity to speak on this very welcome Bill, which builds on the success we have seen in recent years in reducing road fatalities. I echo the remarks of the Minister and others in acknowledging the work done by Mr. Noel Brett, the first CEO of the Road Safety Authority, who is moving on to a job which I suspect, will be no less challenging, which will be to represent the Irish Banking Federation.

A Tobacco Free Ireland by 2025! That is the overall aim of a new tobacco policy, Tobacco Free Ireland launched by Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly today (Thursday 3rd October, 2013).
