Helen McEntee, TD

Helen McEntee TD was appointed as Minister for Justice in June 2020.

Helen was first elected to Dáil Éireann in a Bye-Election in March 2013, and re-elected in the February 2016 general election. Deputy McEntee was appointed by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD to be Minister for Mental Health and Older People at the Department of Health in May 2016 as part of the new Partnership Government.

In June 2017, as part of a government reshuffle by newly appointed Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD, Minister McEntee was promoted to the position of Minister of State for EU Affairs, a role that involved negotiations with the United Kingdom in its continuing Brexit process.

McEntee was elected as Vice-President of the European People’s Party (EPP) in November 2019, at the party’s Congress in Zagreb.

She previously served on the Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications, and was also a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht.

In 2007 Helen graduated from DCU with a B.A (Hons) degree in Law, Politics and Economics. She holds a Masters degree in Communications and Journalism. Helen attended Heronstown National School in Lobinstown, Co Meath, and St Joseph’s Mercy Secondary School in Navan.
