Cllr. Cathal Byrne

Cathal, 33, from Ballyhogue is part of a new generation of public representatives. He is your Fine Gael candidate for the Dail in the Wexford Constituency.
Educated at Kiltealy NS, Boolavogue NS and the FCJ Secondary School, he graduated from Trinity College Dublin with an Honours degree in Law and Business, and a Masters in Law. As a qualified Solicitor he runs his own practice based in Enniscorthy, having previously worked on the successful Congressional election campaign of Joe Kennedy III in Boston (grandnephew to the former US President) and in the Office of the Irish Attorney General.

Cathal was first elected to Wexford County Council in 2019 aged 27 as the youngest elected member of Wexford County Council. He was re-elected in June 2024, topping the poll with 2,275 first preference votes.

Cathal is deeply rooted in the community, and played gaelic football and soccer at underage and adult level. He now serves on the Board of Directors of the 1798 Rebellion Centre and as an elected member of the Wexford GAA County Board since 2015.
Election Priorities
  • Pushing for increased supply of quality and affordable housing for Wexford.
  • Achieving Wexford’s potential by delivering IDA Advance Factories in Enniscorthy and New Ross, the N11/N25 Oilgate to Rosslare Bypass and the Rosslare Europort masterplan.
  • Prioritising funding for Wexford General Hospital and delivering the planned 97 bed unit extension together with expanded primary care and mental health services.
  • Active locally supporting local businesses, farmers, sporting and community and voluntary organisations.
  • Securing increased investment for our roads, tourism, schools and childcare facilities.
