Pete Roche, TD

Pete was elected as a TD in November 2024; Siobhan McHugh-Ryan has since been co-opted, to replace him on Galway County Council.

Peter Roche is married to Bridie with four sons, Alan, Adrian, Mark and Colin (who passed away in November 2010). He comes from a family of 12 and is a part time farmer immersed in a rural village.

He is currently Chairperson of Tuam Municipal Area, a position he has held previously on two occasions.

He is currently the Chairperson of Galway Rural Development and a board member of Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB) for a third term.  He has also served for five years on the Regional Health Forum West.

He proudly served as Mayor of County Galway in the 2015 /2016 term.

He has hosted hundreds of events around the entire county as well as nationally during the 1916 commemoration year.

Peter is a strong advocate for positive mental health and suicide prevention across the country.

He has served and chaired on many school boards through his involvement with GRETB and he proudly chaired the County Joint Policing Committee for two terms, as well as chairing the board of the County Roads and Transportation committee for five years.

He is proud to have topped the poll at every council election and he narrowly missed out in the 2020 general election, securing over 6000 first preference votes.

Housing, healthcare, childcare, early years intervention, and education are all key priorities for Peter.

As a TD, he will be a strong advocate for rural Ireland, seeking support for the farming and agriculture sector, prioritise rural development, and improving Infrastructure such as our broadband, water & sewerage systems.

He will work for increased funding from Central Government to Local Authorities to support road building and improve road infrastructure.
