Cllr. Sarah Barnes

General Election Candidate for: Dublin South West

Cllr. Sarah Barnes

Sarah was elected to South Dublin County Council in the 2024 Local Elections, representing the Firhouse/Bohernabreena electoral area and she is a candidate in the upcoming General Election for Dublin South West constituency.

Growing up in a Fine Gael political family, Sarah was inspired by her mother, the late Monica Barnes, who served as a Fine Gael Senator and T.D. in the Dun Laoghaire constituency for over two decades. This strong political foundation shaped Sarah’s commitment to public service.

Sarah lived and worked abroad for several years before returning to Knocklyon in the mid-1990s. As her children attended local schools, she became actively involved in community life.

Sarah’s professional background includes working as an Executive Assistant and Deputy Company Secretary in both Ireland and abroad, which gives her a well-rounded perspective on policy and governance.

Sarah is passionate about housing, and advocates for more affordable housing, especially for young people.

If elected to the Dáil, she will prioritise additional resources for students with special educational needs.

In her constituency, Sarah would like to see improvements to the public transport infrastructure.

She also wants to strengthen animal welfare policies.
