Cllr Willie Kennedy

Cllr Willie Kennedy

I have been involved in Fine Gael for the past 45 years and have been a dedicated member and officer at branch, district and constituency level.  In particular I was very involved in helping to build up the party following the difficult time the party in North Tipperary found itself in 1996 and 1997.  I am still today committed to the ideals of the Party and when elected will do my best to make sure the Roscrea/Templemore district is well represented.  I will also dedicate myself to working for the members in the District and be a strong new voice for community life at the County Council Table if successful.

I have served as National Chairman in Macra Na Feirme for two terms.  I am involved actively in Community Life in my home Parish of Templetuohy.

I am married to Eileen Donnelly Kennedy for over 30 years and she is an active community leader in Templetuohy and Roscrea and particularly Hospice work in North Tipperary.

A New Voice at the Council Table

ISSUES

Housing – so many people are looking for a house to call home. Yet we have 160,000 vacant Houses in Ireland in towns, villages and the country side. We need to get as many as possible of these houses back in use for families. Many young people want to build in their local areas so we need to define areas locally where they can build.

Health – our population is growing rapidly and our older citizens need more access to a G.P. Our G.Ps are also ageing and will not be there forever and currently there is already a shortage.  Without a good G.P. service all other health initiatives will fail.

Agriculture – farmers are never appreciated for the work they do. Yet we need them three times per day every day to provide food.  There are 8 Billion people in the world all needing food.  Any reduction in food supply will only increase prices.  This will affect poorer people first.

Small retail Business – we need to help keep small retailers in Business, such as small shops, pubs which are vital for social and community life.

Stronger Safer Communities – we need to build stronger safer communities by encouraging volunteerism.
