Cllr Richard Truell
Richard was co-opted as a Member of Monaghan County Council in December 2018, replacing Cllr. Eva Humphreys who stood down, due to work commitments. He was subsequently elected as a Councillor in the Local Elections, in 2019. He was elected as Leas-Chaothairleach of Monaghan County Council in June 2020, and will hold that office for twelve months.
He has been working in the laboratory in Cavan General Hospital since 2014; before that, he spent some time travelling around Australia and America.
Richard is an assistant secretary of Monaghan Zone Bowls, and plays for his local club Aghabog; he is also a big fan of other sports in the area – football and table tennis.
His priority is to see better infrastructure in place for towns across the county, in the hope of greater job creation, particularly in Clones and Ballybay. Richard is fully aware of the strains people are under with the lack of job opportunities in rural Ireland, although this has improved somewhat.
Other priorities include:
- putting more focus on the self employed and the small farmer, maintaining the single farm payment and getting better prices for supplies
- maintaining and improving educational facilities in the region – vital for jobs, which prevent people from emigrating
- maintaining services in Monaghan and Cavan General Hospital, which is vital for the region
Please feel free to contact Richard with any issues you may have. He is always available.
