Cllr Alma Gallagher
Alma Gallagher is a native of Ballyhaunis and a Fine Gael Local Election candidate in the Claremorris Electoral Area. Alma was a founding member of Yong Fine Gael in the 1990s and has a keen interest in Politics, Rural and Community Development.
Alma was appointed Development Officer for North Mayo/West Sligo in 2003, delivering the Leader Plus Programme and Local Development Social Inclusion Programme. Her role involved providing capacity building support to businesses, delivering village enhancement schemes as well as working with older people, people with disabilities and unemployed persons.
In 2006 Alma was appointed Manager of Clár ICH, a Voluntary Housing Association. Her role involves managing three charities, developing social housing projects, enterprise development as well as delivering SEAI energy retrofitting projects. Alma also liaises with Pobal and the Department of Social Protection in the delivery of the Community Services Programme and the Community Employment Scheme (CES).
Alma has held national and county representations on boards such as Age Action, Befriending Mayo and Mayo Community Futures Steering Committee. Alma is a Director of Ballyhaunis Community Council and is a member of the Executive Board of Ballyhaunis GAA Club.
Alma holds a Master’s from the University of Limerick, Higher Diploma in Housing Studies from the Institute of Public Administration, Certificate in Social Enterprise from Carlow IT and Certificate in Training and Education from Maynooth University.
