Paddy Buggy was co-opted as a Councillor for the Portlaoise electoral area, replacing Willie Aird, following his election to the Dáil.

Paddy is a Laois native with a strong passion for the development of Laois to its full potential. Married to Zita Kelly. Paddy manages Mountmellick Development Association, a not for profit community development organisation and is also a small tillage and beef farmer, farming in Clonaslee and Kyletalesha.

He is a Peace Commissioner and serves on the Midlands Prison Visiting Committee.

Paddy was educated in Carlow Regional Technical College where he qualified in electrical and electronic engineering, which propelled him into national and international business roles.

Having travelled extensively he returned to Laois to care for elderly relatives, farm and become involved in community activities. Paddy is very active in Laois being in leadership roles in both local and national organisations for over twenty years, including the following organisations/roles in Laois:

  • Laois Community Champion during Covid-19 and member the County Response Committee
  • Rotating Chair of Laois Public Participation Network Secretariat
  • Board of management Mountmellick Community School currently and formerly St. Fergal’s Rathdowney, Heywood Community School and Mountmellick CS.
  • IFA Branch member & branch officer
  • Mountmellick Christmas Tree committee
  • Chair of the National PPN Conference (2022)
  • Board Member Laois Partnership Company (2008 – 2014)
  • Chair & Vice Chair of Laois LCDC (2014 – 2020)
  • Regional Chairperson & National Board Member of Irish Shows Association (2010 – 2021)
  • Chair of Laois Community Forum
  • Board Member of Laois VEC (2009 – 2012)
  • Foróige Club Leader (2006 to date)
