Cllr David Fitzgerald
Councillor David Fitzgerald is an auctioneer in Kilkenny city, but lives with his wife Paula and four children in the rural community of Ballycallan.
An economics graduate, David was a teacher in his earlier career and has also driven vans, trucks and worked on building sites, which has given him a wealth of experience of working life.
His political career began when he was first elected to Kilkenny County Council in 2009. Since then he has served as Mayor of Kilkenny twice and Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council.
He has also held many leadership roles including President of Kilkenny Chamber of Commerce, Chair of Callan Friary Trust, Chair of Rothe House Trust and as a member of IFA.
David successfully led the campaign to locate the new National Veterinary College in Piltown and established a New Homes Task Force in Kilkenny County Council, to deliver social housing.
His experience as a Councillor, business owner, rural Ireland dweller and parent has shaped David’s priorities which include housing, infrastructure , sustainable farming, and developing an integrated childcare system. A long-term activist, David is ambitious for what can be achieved for Carlow-Kilkenny if he’s elected to Dáil Éireann.
