Cllr John Kennedy

John was appointed to succeed Josepha Madigan TD to represent the Stillorgan local electoral ward on Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, following her election to Dáil Éireann. He was subsequently successful in the 2019 Local Elections.

He has been appointed to the following influential committees: the Joint Policing Committee, the Planning & Citizen Engagement Strategic Policy Committee and the Economic Development and Enterprise Strategic Policy Committee.

John attended primary school (St.Laurence’s N.S.), secondary school (St.Benildus College) and university (UCD) within the Stillorgan ward.

Immediate members of his family have also attended other schools within the area, such as Mount Anville N.S. and St. Raphaela’s.

He graduated from UCD with a BSc (Honours) Computer Science degree and is employed presently as a Software Engineer.

John had previously participated in meetings of the Kilmacud Crokes Business Network and the St.Benildus College Alumni Network.

He is a member of Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club, the RDS, European Movement Ireland and the Institute of International and European Affairs.

Priorities:

The restoration of a swimming pool for the Stillorgan area following the pool closure at Glenalbyn.

Encouraging the removal of obstacles impeding the rapid construction of new family-friendly houses within Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown.

Through his involvement on the council and also on various committees: supporting practical and realistic measures to deter crime; encouraging local enterprise; protecting the established residential character of the community and fighting against pressures for more high-rise development.
