Jacqueline Burke has lived all her life in Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown.  She went to school in Cabinteely, trained and worked as a nurse in St. Michael’s Hospital Dún Laoghaire and St. John of God Hospital Stillorgan.  She then specialised in cardiovascular nursing in St. Vincent’s University Hospital.  She was later a pioneer in the revolution of nursing education, moving to the universities spending eighteen years in nursing education in UCD, where she is still Emerita Assistant Professor.

Her late husband, Martin, was pivotal in developing the St John of God Lucena CAMHS nursing services that helped so many children and adolescents in Dún Laoghaire and beyond.

She has a strong history of public service and served on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, the National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery and the National Implementation Committee for the Degree Nursing Programme in Ireland.

Currently, she is Chair of the Prehospital Emergency Council and a Board Member of the Irish Kidney Association.
