New school for children with autism and learning disabilities in Crumlin is a welcome development
18th December 2020 - Mary Seery-Kearney
A new Special School which will open in 2021 is a much-needed development which will greatly assist children with learning disabilities, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
Dublin South Central Senator Mary Seery-Kearney said, “I was delighted to welcome the announcement yesterday by Minister Josepha Madigan, Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion of the establishment of a new Special School in 2021 on the campus of the former Scoil Colm in Crumlin, Dublin 12.
“This is a much-needed development which will help to meet the demand for special school places in the area.
“Minister Madigan has worked extremely hard in advancing special needs places since the establishment of this new Department a mere 6 months ago.
“She has listened to the voices of campaigners for this school, including the” Dublin 12 Campaign for Autism Special School” whom I brought to meet with her.
“I have been delighted to work with her to ensure the community has a dedicated school to provide focussed supports within an education setting for our Autism Community.
“This new special school will offer places to students with autism and general learning disabilities, many of whom are currently in mainstream schools or receiving education under the home tuition scheme.
“This will significantly ease the burden on parents trying to find suitable places for their children in schools and make a huge difference in the lives of children who deserve to live their best life,” Senator Seery-Kearney concluded.
