New Internship Scheme a Positive Step in Tackling Unemployment
30th June 2011 - Senator Anthony Lawlor
“It is with great excitement that I express my support for the National Internship Scheme (announced as part of the Government’s Jobs Initiative), JobBridge, which is launching on Friday 1st July 2011. This scheme is a positive step being taken by the Government to help job seekers by encouraging the gaining of knowledge and experience in their field of interest, and by creating relationships and networks within which they will have the ability to progress their careers. It is also an opportunity for employers to help in resolving the current unemployment crisis” announced Kildare North TD Anthony Lawlor.
JobBridge will help thousands of people who feel stuck on the Live Register gain access to the jobs market. There are a huge number of very talented people who are out of work at present; this scheme will offer many of them the chance to get back on the ladder to full time employment.
Applicants must be on the Live Register for at least 3 months prior to applying for an internship and will receive €50 on top of their existing welfare payments. Public, private, community and voluntary organisations throughout the whole country can avail of this scheme. Any employer wishing to advertise internship opportunities must be legal entities, and will be required to promote a positive work environment in which the intern is able to gain experience in the field.
“I would encourage anyone who is interested in either becoming an intern or offering an internship to visit the official website, www.jobbridge.ie. This website provides all the detailed information in terms of eligibility and internship opportunities, as well as further details regarding the application process” said Anthony Lawlor TD.
