N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin upgrade to go to planning in early Autumn
7th July 2013 - Senator Michael Comiskey
Fine Gael Sligo/Leitrim Senator Michael Comiskey, has today (Wednesday) has welcomed confirmation which he received from the Chief Executive of the National Roads Authority that the upgrade works on the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin road will go before An Bord Pleanála in early Autumn.
“While the majority of the N4 is in good repair, the stretch between Colloney and Castlebaldwin is in a particularly dangerous state. This is all too evident by the thirty white crosses, which mark the tragic deaths which have taken place on the N4 over the years.
“There was disappointment when upgrade works were delayed on two previous occasions by the NRA in order to study further the economic viability of the works. The safety of road users must be paramount irrespective of economic circumstances.
“I hope that today’s announcement will be the first step in moving these works forward in as quick a timeframe as possible so that any further loss of life can be avoided.
“I will continue to raise this matter in the Seanad and with the relevant Government Departments so that momentum can be maintained on this project.”
