Murphy welcomes launch of public consultation on OPW proposals to deal with Blackpool flooding
24th November 2015 - Dara Murphy TD
Fine Gael TD for Cork North Central, and Minister for European Affairs, Dara Murphy, has today (Tuesday) welcomed the launch of proposals by the Office of Public Works (OPW) to deal with the flooding problems in Blackpool. Minister Murphy said there will be an opportunity for members of the local community to share their concerns about the flooding issue at the public exhibition of the River Bride Blackpool Certified Drainage Scheme, in the local Community Centre, 90 Great William O’Brien Street, Blackpool.
Speaking at the OPW Public Consultation launch today, Europe Minister, Dara Murphy, said:
“The OPW is publishing draft Flood Maps for public consultation to run until 23rd December 2015. This is an important component of the Government’s detailed flood risk planning process; to engage with Blackpool residents, community groups and businesses in order to gather local insights to get as full a picture and all possible information to inform and finalise these draft Flood Maps.
“It also provides an opportunity for the OPW and Design Consultants of the Scheme (Arup) to explain the draft maps and the CFRAM programme.
“The River Bride Blackpool Scheme will be on Public Exhibition at the Blackpool Public Library from 2pm on Tuesday 24th November 2015 until Tuesday 22nd December 2015 during normal opening hours.
“In addition, representatives from the OPW’s Design Team and Environmental Consultants, as well as OPW personnel will be in attendance at the Blackpool Community Centre over a number of dates to answer any queries from the public on the scheme proposals.”
