27th March 2013 - Deborah Sweeney
Fine Gael Cork North Central Deputy, Dara Murphy, has welcomed the fact that following a meeting today (Wednesday) between Members of the Blackpool Traders Association and the Minister of State for the OPW Brian Hayes TD, the Minister has agreed to come to Cork to meet with City Manager, Tim Lucey.
“I welcome the fact that Minister Hayes met representatives from Blackpool this morning, had a very constructive meeting and has agreed to come to Cork to meet with the City Manager. The Minister also indicated that consultants would be appointed within the next two weeks to complete a plan to address the ongoing flooding threat in the Blackpool area.
“Minister Hayes said that there was a broad range of measures, including an improved alert system available in the short term and that the implementation of these measures will be discussed with the City Manager.
“I would like to compliment members of the business community who attended, for the work they are doing for people in Blackpool. I am also satisfied that Minister Hayes fully took on board the urgency of the matter and the genuine concerns expressed by the Blackpool business community and all four Cork North Central TDs who were present at the meeting.”
