Minister Coffey inspects Dredging of Dunmore East Harbour
2nd December 2015 - Senator Paudie Coffey
Fine Gael Waterford Minister Paudie Coffey has inspected the dredging of Dunmore East Harbour which is nearing completion. Minister Coffey said that this investment represents a €7.7 million investment in the Harbour that will have long term benefits for the local economy. Minister Coffey has also been engaging with his colleague Minister Simon Coveney TD about the vacant buildings in the Harbour and bringing in new investment that could occupy them and bring even more life back into the village.
“Dunmore East is a fantastic village in Waterford County and the investment that has been secured over the last number of years in respect of the Harbour, in terms of improvement of the Wharf and the dredging of the Harbour represents significant investment for the village.
Minister Coffey said “While these investments are important and long overdue; it is critical that we have a plan to further progress the village over the next number of years. That is why I have been engaged with my colleague Minister Simon Coveney in respect of the vacant buildings at Dunmore East Harbour and how they can be brought back into beneficial use. There is a need for more spin-off commercial enterprise on these vacant units and I am committed to seeing this happen.
“I am committed to continuing to work with my Ministerial Colleagues within government in order to ensure that Dunmore East can continue to recover and return itself into a vibrant fishing, commercial and tourist village once again.” concluded Minister Coffey
