Minister Coffey Announces €255,000 of funding under 2015 Rural Water Programme for Waterford

6th May 2015 - Senator Paudie Coffey

Fine Gael Waterford Minister Paudie Coffey has announced €255,000 for group water and group sewerage schemes for Waterford in 2015. Minister Coffey said he expected that vital projects such as Blenheim Sewerage Scheme can progress quickly and draw down the funding as soon as possible.

“The funding is primarily aimed at improving water quality in group water schemes, and at upgrading and water conservation works in group water scheme distribution networks. The programme also provides funding for group sewerage schemes.

“Blenheim is an estate of 55 houses in Waterford City which was developed in 1970s. It is a suburban type estate but all of the houses have their own individual septic tanks. The estate itself is located in close proximity to the Islandview pumping station.

“This is situation that has been ignored for many years and is clear example of how investment in Water infrastructure is needed. There is considerable investment happening in Waterford for the upgrading of water systems across Waterford City and County.

“I met with residents of Blenheim Estate in recent months to listen to their concerns about Waste Water Treatment in their Estate and I am pleased that funding has now been delivered so as works can begin as soon as possible.

Minister Coffey concluded: “The Government remains committed to continued support of the Group Water sector as an important element of the water industry in Ireland, founded on co-operative community and voluntary engagement. The Government is also committed to investment in the sector, to sustain and improve quality, standards and performance.”
