McHugh announces €129,800 funding boost for Donegal Volunteer Centre

Donegal Volunteer Centre is set for a major funding boost, local TD Joe McHigh has announced.

Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Seán Kyne approved the allocation today, said the Government Chief Whip.

Minister McHugh said: “Donegal Volunteer Centre plays a vital role in enabling volunteering locally, allowing them to give back to the community.

“The Centre publicises opportunities and facilitates volunteers who want to feel connected to their community. It helps foster a sense of involvement and promotes good citizenship. Since 2008 they have helped 2,500 people to volunteer across a range of areas in Donegal.

“Donegal Volunteer Centre provides good practice in volunteering and is a major asset to our county and our community. This funding of €129,800 will help them continue their incredible work in 2018.”

Minister Seán Kyne: “Volunteering positively impacts every community across every city and county in Ireland with people contributing on a regular basis in all sorts of ways. Many organisations, projects and initiatives depend on volunteers to continue to make a difference.

“I am also pleased to be able to approve an increase allocation of core funding for Volunteer Ireland bringing the total to €351,800.

“Volunteer Ireland provides a number of important supports to volunteer centres including the I-VOL national volunteering database. A further €100,000 is being allocated to support the Volunteer Information Services which operates in counties not currently served by volunteer centres.”
