McEntee congratulates winners of Meath VEC Young Historian of the Year Awards

10th May 2013 - Brid Murphy

Fine Gael Meath East TD, Helen McEntee, has congratulated the winners of this year’s Meath VEC Young Historian of the Year Awards. Deputy McEntee attended the awards at the VEC offices in Navan on Wednesday (May 8th), where the inaugural Shane McEntee award was won by Nobber VEC.

“I was hugely impressed by the standard of entrants in this year’s competition, and the level of interest from students and teachers alike is very encouraging. The competition is now in its seventh year, and it is certainly going from strength to strength.

“It was a great honour to be present for the awarding of the first ever Shane McEntee Award for Best Overall School Effort. It is rather fitting that it was won by Nobber VEC, and I am sure that dad would have been very proud of the effort put in by all of the local students involved. I would like to thank all of those involved in Meath VEC for organising this very thoughtful tribute.

“There was an impressive array of projects on show this year, and all of the history teachers who have given so much support to their pupils deserve to be commended. The promotion of local history is very important for Co. Meath, and this project plays a very positive role in that respect.

“I was delighted to attend the awards, and I would like to thank all of the staff in Meath VEC who worked hard on putting the event together. I would also like to congratulate all of the students, teachers and parents for their dedication and creativity.”
