Luas connection to Maynooth train line a huge boost

Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, warmly welcomes the announcement today from Minister Leo Varadkar that An Bord Pleanála has granted a Railway Order for the Luas BXD line which will link the two existing Luas lines and terminate in Broombridge, interchanging with the Maynooth line.

“This is wonderful news for the people from Kildare North who access the train line from Maynooth or Leixlip as it will make commuting throughout the city so much more accessible. Once constructed, you will be able to travel from Maynooth to Sandyford with only one change. It will bring Dublin in line with most other modern cities by proving an integrated rail and light rail network.

“Along with creating a well functioning public transport system, the construction phase will also create hundreds of jobs. Minister Varadkar is confident that the arrangements and tendering for the project will be finalised as soon as possible, with construction commencing in the near future.

“Despite the tough economic climate, it is refreshing to note that such transport projects are still advancing, with a recognition of the need for an effective and practical public transport system. This is a huge boost for commuters both into and out of Kildare and I look forward to seeing construction commencing without delay”.
